The three most common forms of arthritis
are osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and gout.
Millions of people of all ages are affected. Common features of
the illness include an inflammation of the joints, surrounding tendons,
ligaments, and cartilage. The effects range from slight pain,
stiffness, and swelling of the joints, to crippling and disability.

Osteoarthritis
Osteoarthritis is the most common and
usually develops from overuse of the joints, injury, or "wear and
tear" due to an unhealthy aging process. It has been reported
that by age 65 as many as 75% of the U.S. population have evidence of
the disease in at least one of the body joints.
Osteoarthritis causes the breakdown of
cartilage that protects the ends of bones from rubbing against each
other. As the disease progresses, direct bone contact leads to
inflammation and severe pain as bones continue to rub together without
proper cushioning.
Rheumatoid Arthritis
Rheumatoid Arthritis affects more women
than men and usually starts between the ages of 20 and 50. It
is classified as an autoimmune disease in which the body attacks its own
tissues and commonly starts with the small joints of the hand.
Symptoms can grow slowly or seemingly overnight. Symptoms may
include night sweats, depression, lethargy, fatigue, low-grade fever,
weakness, and joint stiffness, inflamation and pain.
Gout
Gout is a common type of arthritis caused by a buildup in the body of uric acid, which is found in meats and some other foods. When the level of uric acid rises to unhealthy levels in the body, it crystallizes in the joint cartilage and synovial tissue and fluid, causing sharp, needle-like pain in the joints, as well as fever, chills, and loss of mobility.

Diet
Proper diet and nutrition are believed to
be key elements in the prevention of arthritis and other diseases. If
you have joint pain conditions that may indicate arthritis, I encourage
you to try a liquid glucosamine supplement. Also,
review the arthritis
diet article. You may have a good
chance of solving your problems.
